Zhejiang Research Institute of Chemical Industry (hereinafter referred to as "Zhejiang Institute") was established on June 8, 1994, as the establishment of the "Engineering Technology Center for Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) Alternatives of the Ministry of Chemical Industry". On April 15, 1999, after being demonstrated and approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China and relevant experts, Zhejiang Institute became a supporting unit of the "National Atmospheric Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) Alternatives Engineering Technology Research Center" (hereinafter referred to as the "center").
Zhejiang Research Institute of Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Zhejiang Institute Company") is a wholly state-owned limited liability company funded by Sinochem Lantian Co., Ltd. Zhejiang Institute Company has a second-level subsidiary, Zhejiang Lantian Environmental Protection High-tech Co., Ltd., which is an important entity for scientific research and development, as well as industrial engineering amplification of the National ODS Alternatives Engineering Technology Research Center. Currently, Zhejiang Institute Company has established five third-level subsidiaries, including Hangzhou FTZ Chemical Co., Ltd., Guizhou Lantian Chemical Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Lantian Environmental Protection Chemical Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Lansu Fluoride Co., Ltd., and Zhejiang Lantian Environmental Fluorine Material Co., Ltd. Zhejiang Institute Company’s parent company is Sinochem Lantian Co., Ltd., and the ultimate controlling party is Sinochem Group Co., Ltd.
Center Development History
Since its establishment, the center has focused on meeting domestic and international market demands, conducting research and development on ODS alternatives preparation technology, complete engineering technology, and application technology with independent intellectual property rights. The center has established an engineering technology research center and an ODS alternatives engineering technology contracting company with top talents, technologies, equipment, and management. These efforts have accelerated the engineering, commercialization, and internationalization of scientific research achievements, promoted progress in science and technology across the industry, and stimulated the development of China’s ODS alternatives industry. In December 2003, the center successfully passed the evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Research Direction, Objectives, and Tasks
Domestic Standing
(1) China is a leading global producer of fluorocarbon chemicals (HCFCs and HFCs), accounting for 38% and 16% of the world’s total production value, respectively.
(2) The domestic market share of fluorocarbon chemicals in the center reaches 33% and 22% respectively.
Industry influence
(1) It is a center with proven technologies, comprehensive varieties, and numerous patents, including more than 10 varieties with significant market share domestically and internationally.
(2) In 2010, the center was entrusted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Environmental Protection to take the lead in organizing the preparation of the "12th Five-Year Plan" for the national fluorine chemical industry. The center also presided over the formulation of the industrial product access system.
(3) In 2007, Zhejiang Lantian Environmental Protection High-tech Co., Ltd. received the "Contribution Award for Eliminating Perchlorofluorocarbons/Halons in the Implementation of the United Nations Ozone Layer Convention" presented by the United Nations Environment Programme, the State Environmental Protection Administration, and the World Bank.
